To
All Students:
This is your student information booklet,
the information enclosed in this booklet applies to all our classes unless
otherwise stated.
Welcome to the Machine Technology Laboratory
at San Diego City College. You have choosen a very interesting field of
study. Many of you are completely new to this type of enviroment so I thought
I would create this handout to answer some commonly asked questions.
In the Spring semester of 1996 we experienced
a huge amount of growth, many of you may have been here to witness it.
We may have as many students this semester as then. Because of this we
are going to have to all work a little harder, a little smarter and as
a team. Everyone who is in a class has a schedule to follow, you have scheduled
lecture times, and scheduled laboratory times. We will follow the scheduled
times. There will not be enough equipment to allow anyone to come in out
of their scheduled times, please don't come in if you are not scheduled
to be here. We do not have enough time as it is without taking the time
to figure out who should be here and who shouldn't.

Bar
Codes:
All students will be issued a barcode to
track their laboratory times make sure you barcode in and barcode out of
class as required. We will let you know how to identify yourself when you
are at a computer. Barcodeing in someone else is a serious offense, this
is fraud. If you forget to barcode in or out of thr Lab. you will receive
one hour credit for the day.

Laboratory
Attendance:
We will use the barcode reader to track your
laboratory hours, if you fall behind more then 10% we will drop you at
the next scheduled drop date. You will not be able to make up missed laboratory
time so don't fall behind with your hours. We will probably have a verbal
role call as well as using the barcode system. If you forget to barcode
in or out you will only receive 1 hour for the session.

Laboratory
Usage Policy:
The computer laboratory (T-104/T-105) is
the most advanced CAD/CAM laboratory we can develop, it is much more advanced
then anything you will find anywhere else. The laboratory will be used
heavily, because of that we all have some basic rules that everyone has
to follow. If you have any questions about these rules please ask for clarification.
-
1. Students will not bring food or drinks into
the computer laboratory at any time.
-
2. Students will keep the laboratory clean (
we are not the janitorial staff)
-
3. Students will not copy software from the
computers, or install software without permission of the Instructor. This
is a very serious legal offense. You will be permanently ejected from class
for this, and possibly the school. You will also face legal prosecution.
-
4. Students will check all their disks, and
the hard disks for computer viruses each time you use them, a computer
virus can cause serious problems with your projects, you are responsible
for keeping them clean. Lost projects due to a virus is not considered
a valid excuse.
-
5. Only those people scheduled to be in the
laboratory will be allowed in the laboratory, we can not allow unauthorized
visitors. Get permission ahead of time if you would like to bring a visitor.
-
6. Students will delete only the files, and
directories that they have stored on the hard drive, this will be done
by the student at the end of each laboratory class.
-
7. Students will exit all active software programs
except the program manager, do not turn off the computers.
-
8. Students will keep the computers clean, don't
write on the computers, don't touch the screens with pencils, pens or your
fingers this can scratch the screens.
-
9. Students will keep the laboratory looking
orderly, put the keyboards, mice, and chairs back where they belong, so
they won't look unorganized.
-
10. Students will make sure that their hands
are clean before using the computers.
-
11. Students will not reserve a computer and
then leave the laboratory for more then a few minutes. If you leave the
laboratory put a note on the computer listing your name, the class your
in, the time you left, and the time you will be back. If you don't do this
we will give the computer to someone else to use after five minutes.
-
12. Students who are not on the barcode system
will be asked to leave. Only use the barcode system for yourself, do not
use other peoples barcode.
-
13. Students will treat the computer laboratory
as a library, clean and quiet.
-
14. Students will not use foul language, this
is offensive to everyone.
-
15. Students will not call up material on the
Internet that can be considered offensive to other people in the laboratory.
-
16. Each student will use only one computer
at a time.
-
17. Students will not waste printer paper and
ink. Don't print something that is over two pages Unless you have gotten
permission.
-
18. The printer takes time to print, don't print
multiple copies of something, wait 5 minutes.
-
19. Students will not change the barcode computer
to check on anything, this computer will be used by the students only to
barcode in and out. If you have any problems get one of us.
-
20. All students will ask permission before
using the plotter, you will need one of us to activate it.
-
21. Students will ask permission to use the
telephone, there is a pay telephone outside by the elavator in front of
the "T" building.
-
22. Students will start the cleaning process15
minutes before the end of class, don't wait until the last minute.

Machining
area:
-
1. All students will pass a safety test before
they will be allowed to be in the Shop area, this will be completed the
first few weeks of class, you will receive a passing grade. This test does
not count toward your grade. You only have to take the test once each semester.
You must take the test before you proceed with the semester. If necessary
you can take the test over to get a passing grade. This will be done using
a Scantron Test form which can be purchased at the bookstore.
-
2. Students who are out in the Machine Shop
will follow all the Safety Rules as required by State, Federal and local
laws. Any students not in compliance will be asked to leave the area. Make
sure you have the proper safety supplies for the classes you are in if
you do not you will be asked to leave and be marked absent for the day.
This will have a negative impact on your grade.
-
3. Students will be responsible for cleaning
any machine they use, this will be checked by the instructional staff before
you leave.
-
4. Students will follow the laboratory schedule
for the class they are in, when the laboratory isn't scheduled the machines
will not be operated.
